When can my child have their first photo shoot with Elis Brown photography?

Children, family and dog photographer in Northamptonshire

There are so many milestones in a babies first year. Would you like photographs of those irreplaceable first few days? Or maybe you would prefer to wait until your baby is smiling or sitting up? Babies can start having photo shoots from as early as 2 weeks old. These newborn sessions capture those first, precious weeks with your newborn baby and are usually done in a studio setting.

At Elis Brown Photography, children can be photographed typically around the age of 6 months old, when they are able to sit up unsupported. This is because Elis captures portraits in an outdoor environment, and therefore being able to sit up is important when being outside in nature.

When a baby has reached this milestone, there’s a few reasons why it’s a perfect time to capture your little one:

You can capture a wide variety of images once your baby is sitting

Once a baby is sitting up there is more opportunity to capture them whilst sitting on different props, such as a rustic children’s vintage chair or crate. It also makes it much easier to incorporate the beauty of nature into your photographs, by children sitting on logs or within a field of wild poppies!

You can see more of your babies personalities in the photos

6 months is typically the age when your child’s personality begins to show. This is a perfect age to have your child photographed as they are usually fairly comfortable to interact with strangers - they haven’t yet become shy around people they don’t know. This usually means they are happy to engage with the photographer and we can capture lots of different expressions.

They still have that beautiful gummy smile!

Their teeth haven’t yet come through yet (usually), so we can capture that beautiful wide gummy smile which seems to disappear so quickly!

Once babies are fully mobile, they don’t stay still for long!

Once your baby is able to move around they may be a little less interested interacting with the photographer, as all they want to do is explore (who can blame them!). Having your child photographed at this age means we can capture a wide range of images without your little one becoming frustrated.
